Lumares started on the deck of a sailing yacht, with a problem many boat owners will recognize.

Hi, I'm Sybren Smith, founder of Lumares.

Together with my partner Charlotte, I'm preparing our yacht, Cedo Nulli (Danish Rose 39), for a voyage around the world. And the deeper we got into preparing the boat, the more I realized how much there is to know.

Engine, electrical systems, maintenance, navigation, route planning. And an endless stream of questions.

Many times when I needed an answer, I turned to AI. But there was a problem: it didn't know my boat.

I had to explain the same engine, systems and specifications over and over again.

So I built something for myself.

  1. 1. A boat named Cedo Nulli

    Together with Charlotte, I'm preparing the adventure of a lifetime aboard Cedo Nulli, our Danish Rose 39, a Dutch steel sailing yacht built to go anywhere.

  2. 2. The frustration

    The more I learned about the boat, the more information I had to keep track of. Manuals, specifications, maintenance history and all the little things you learn along the way. I wanted one place where my boat's knowledge was always available quickly.

  3. 3. The idea

    So I built Luma. An AI companion that learns your boat once. Upload your manuals, invoices and specifications, and Luma can find, explain and connect that information when you need it. Not just to answer questions, but to help you figure things out when something goes wrong.

  4. 4. The logbook

    Then came the journey itself. I wanted a proper captain's logbook, one that works offline at anchor and captures passages, waypoints, notes and memories along the way.

  5. 5. Sharing the voyage

    Because sailing isn't just about where you go. It's about the journey and the people you share it with. Lumares turns your journeys into beautiful stories you can share with friends and family back home.
